Christian Soldier

I heard a new (to me) song today - American Soldier. If you haven’t heard it, take a few minutes to listen to it - American Soldier.

The song is wonderful the way it is but I couldn’t help but substitute the word Christian for American in the title. Listen to it again with that substitution in mind. One line in the song says I can’t call in sick on Monday when the weekend’s been too strong. How many Christians spiritually call in sick on Monday (or any day) when life has been overwhelming or we just want to be lazy? Somehow we think it’s OK as spiritual things are, well, spiritual, and not seen or touched as the physically things of this life are. God’s not going to dock your pay check (the immediate one anyway) nor hold it against you like a flesh and blood boss.

The line that hit me the most was I don’t want to die for you, but if I have to I will (paraphrasing as I can’t remember the exact words.)  I think most Christians would say they’d lay down their life for some one, but how many will walk up to a stranger and ask if they know Jesus died for them? I’m not exempting myself from any of these statements, believe me! I’m writing this because these thoughts are stirring my heart and misery loves company so I have to share.

I’m sick of being comfortable in this life. One of the quotes I like from Hold up the Sky is “We get what we’re willing to put up with.” I’m getting less and less willing to put up with anything that is not from God but it’s not going to just change or just happen on it’s own - it’s up to us to fight for what we believe in and LIVE the Word of God. I almost typed live what we believe but honestly, that’s the problem: we DO live what we believe. Maybe it’s time to evaluate what we really believe and how important it is to us.

Good Reads

I found this in a Grace Chapel Inn book - “Aim at heaven and you’ll get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you’ll get neither.” C.S. Lewis.
And from Patricia Sprinklers book, Hold up the Sky- “I wish someone had been able to make me understand, back when I was 18, how much a married woman’s life is shaped by the kind of husband she marries.” THANK GOD for that is all I can say!

and “We get what we’re willing to put up with.”

What profound words from a novel! Thank you, Gina, for loaning this book to me! I’m going to have to add it to my own bookshelves as soon as CBD.com has a free shipping offer. I’d forgotten about Patricia Sprinkle. She wrote Carly’s Song and The Remembrance Box I’d blogged about a last summer. I’d love to spend some time with this woman and ask her how she became so wise. And as I type that a quote from another great Book comes to mind - the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I’d still like to visit with Patricia some day.

I’ve had a wonderful morning. It’s rained the last 3 days. We desperately needed the rain. Now our pastures may recoup from the drought and over grazing damage the neighbor’s cows have done. The cows are off the property now so our land can heal. This rain has been a healing salve.

Today’s rain came early and blew through by 10:00 so I was able to get a couple of loads of laundry on the line. I’d woke up at 3:30 and I was glad I didn’t get called in to school today. I wanted to play in the kitchen today. I’d made cookies for John’s lunch yesterday and that just wet my appetite for baking. I decided on herb bread for today and mixed up ricotta cheese with Italian herbs as well to spread on the hot bread at lunch. I’d made mozzarella yesterday along with spinach balls - cooking both on the outdoor grill until our gas line is repaired. It was thrilling, out in the rain with wind driving blasts under the carport every now and then - I felt so rustic!

Well, enough blogging for now, who can write when there’s hot, homemade bread and a good book awaiting them??? Not me!

Glorious Day!

It has been such a glorious day here at Beulah Land and it’s only 1:20. For the first time since May, I have the windows open and the air conditioning off. I even had to shut the back door because I got COLD. Do you know how glorious it is to feel cold after continuous 100+ degree days? And it rained yesterday and the day before - we got 2 inches per the goat feed bucket. Happy Days are Here Again! Actually, they never left.

I couldn’t waste the first day with the windows open so I baked 2 loafs of banana bread, made some Taco Soup for John to take in to a work luncheon, and put a kettle of bean soup on for our own supper. Laundry is flapping on the line. The wind is blowing all the wrinkles out and the fresh clean air is freshening it. I love it when nature does my work. It’s a wonderful day to be a house wife.

Here’s some of the quilts I’ve made recently.

Frogs and Dragon Flies

Newton 9 Patch
